Basement Project

The basement was a room that was ignored and neglected for quiet a long time, but it was a room we had a plan for. It was the designated hand-me-down room that would get furniture and pieces that no longer worked anywhere upstairs. We knew we needed to simply add paneling. Obviously the furniture needed to be right down there eventually, but we knew that paneling would restore this downstairs area back to it’s glory.

While the thought of adding paneling into a room was easy, sourcing it is a whole different story. We could have gone the route of custom tongue and groove paneling, but that was expensive and not what the house used to be. Higher end paneling would be of use some where else in the house. The process of looking for sheeted paneling that you would find in the 1960-1970’s seems to be a thing of the past. We would look for hours multiple times a day and nothing would come up. One day we found a site called MantelCraft. They had a whole dedicated paneling section on their website where we ordered several samples. The 1/4” Spirit Birch was the clear winner and brings the space back to being comfortable and time period accurate.
